Asialoglycoprotein recetpot is a transmembrane protein that plays an important role in endocytosis and degradation of lysosomal glycoprotein by binding the terminal end of galactose or N-acetylgalactosamine on the surface of Hepatitis B virus. Asialoglycoprotein receptor could facilitate the entry of Hepatitis B visur into placental cells and inflammation cells surrounding placental villous. Analizing the expression of Asialoglycoprotein receptor would predict the risk of transpacental transmission of the virus from mother to child.Methodology We collected 52 placentas from delivered mother who has serum HbsAg positive. The HbsAg positive serum were then examined for HbeAg positive. Immunohsitochemistry staining was performed on block paraffin sections using monoclonal antibody of Asialoglycoprotein receptor. The statistical analysis of Asialoglycoprotein receptor expression was calculated between HBsAg positive-HBeAg positive group and HBsAg positive-HBeAg negative group. Results The expression of Asialoglycoprotein receptor of 52 placenta samples found that 37 samples were score I, 5 samples were score II, 2 samples were score III, and 8 samples were score IV. We found that 14 of 52 serum samples were HbeAg positive and 38 negative. Mann Whitney U test by comparing the expression score of Asialoglycoprotein receptor and HbeAg serum groups resulted of p=0.0001.Conclusion There was a significant correlation between Asialoglycoprotein receptor expression on placenta and mother’s HbeAg serum positive. The expression of Asialoglycoprotein receptor could increased the risk of Hepatitis B virus transmission. The result of this study could be used as a guidelines for preventing and therapeutic approach of Hepatitis B virus from mother to child.Disclosure Nothing to disclose. ER -
