Abstract
Introduction/Background Gynecological malignancies are the fourth most commonly diagnosed cancer and the fourth greatest cause of cancer death in women.
Objective To identify the incidence (newly diagnosed cases)of gynaecological malignancies (uterus,ovary,cervix,vulva and gestational trophoplastic tumors) at Mansoura university hospitals.
Study design An observational longitudinal study.
Place and duration of study: Department of Obstetrics and Gynaecology, Mansoura University hospital, Egypt
Methodology All patients with gynecological malignancies, admitted at the study place during the study period were inclded. All patients with benign gynecologic masses were excluded. Studied variables were age, parity, clinical presentation, clinical diagnosis, tumor staging and surgical procedure. The diagnosis and type of malignancy was confirmed on the histopathology report of the specimen taken.
Results There were a total of 170 patients with gynaecological malignancies were admitted during period from Janeuary 2022 to December 2022 .There median age was 35 years (40.26%), 24 case were nulligravida(14%).
Ovarian malignancies were most common as seen in 51 case (30%) followed by Uterine malignancies in 50 case(29.4%) of cases, Cervical malignancies in 37case (21.7%), Gestotional trophoplastic tumors in 20 case (11.7%), and vulval malignancies in 12 case (7%) of cases. The common histopathological type of ovarian was borderline tumors 9 cases, endometrioid adenocarcinoma 37 case in endomtial cancer, squamous cell carcinoma 19 case in cervical cancer, invasive mole 5 case in GTDs and squamous cell carcinoma 9 cases in vulval cancer.
Conclusion Ovarian and uterine malignancies were the most common type followed by cervical malignancies the GTDs and vulval malignancies.
Disclosures In low resource settings like in Egypt, still we need to establish a strong regestiration system. In addition, it is still looking for national guidelines to standerlize the early detection, prevention and proper management for gynaecological cases.
