Abstract
Introduction/Background Cervicalcancer is thefourthmostcommoncancerforwomenworldwidewith a greatproportionprovedto be relatedtohumanpapillomavirus (HPV) infection, especiallytype 16 and 18. Inthisstudy, weevaluatedthefrequency of HPV typedistribution, and colposcopic findings.
Methodology The results of cytology and colposcopy of 119 HPV positive patients who were referred to the outpatient clinic of Kahramanmaras Cancer Early Diagnosis Screening and Training Center (KETEM) by KSU Gynecologic Oncology outpatient clinic were evaluated. Patients underwent routine colposcopy regardless of their cytology.
Results The mean age of the patients with HPV was 44.2. The most common HPV types are; 16,31,51 (49,19,17 patients). In 31,9% of PPV positive subjects, abnormal cytology was detected. 17,6% of the cases were ASCUS, 5,8% LSIL, 0,84% ASC-H. Was 5.04% HSIL and 2.5% AGC. The number of patients with HPV positivity except than HPV16 and 18 was 60 (50.4%). The number of patients with HPV positivity except HPV16 and 18 was 43 (71.6%) with normal smear results. While the pathological evaluation was normal in 28 (65.1%) of 43 patients who had normal smear biopsy, the pathology result of 8 (18.6%) patients were CIN2 and above.7 (16.2%) patients were reported as CIN 1. HPV 16 and/or 18 positive patient was 59. Smear results were normal in 33 patients, insufficient in 3 patients and abnormal in 23 patients. As a result of the colposcopic biopsy of 59 patients, 1 (1.6%) patient had anedocarcinoma, 28 (47%) had CIN2 and above, 23 (38.9%) had normal and 7 (11.8%) had CIN 1.
Conclusion Cytology is negative and in the HPV other type positive group (CIN2 and above in 8 of 43 patients%18,6), high preinvasive lesion is not only the type 16 and/or 18 positive ones in follow-up (especially type 39,31,51). Because of our finding of high preinvasive lesions in other types, review of our guidelines should be considered in the follow-up of patients.
